Alaska Cruises with Land Tours

Alaska Cruises with Land Tours
By Jennifer Bailey

An Alaskan cruise can be a memorable experience combined with snow-capped mountains, pine forests adorning the coastlines, sparkling glaciers, and an abundance of wildlife. The towns and villages are full of historical interests to attract tourists in their exploration.

The cruising season starts with the advent of summer, as winter is harsh and cold in Alaska. The cruises depart from Seattle, Washington, and Vancouver in Canada. The peak season is considered to be between the months of May and September. An Alaska cruise usually last a week taking the tourists along the Alaskan coastlines, through the Indian Passage. The ports of Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Sitka are usually covered in the cruise. Other cruise routes may include Prince William Sound, located near Anchorage, and run through the Alaskan Peninsula to the Bering Sea. In case of long tours, passengers are required to return via train or plane, as they are usually a one-way trip. Each port visited has historical relevance and offers varying attractions, to impart different tastes of the individual towns and cities.

The largest mountain of North America, Mount McKinley located in the interior regions of Alaska, between Anchorage and Fairbanks, can also be visited during the Alaska Cruise. Seeing whales from the deck of the ship is part of the Alaska cruise, where sometimes tourists even hire small boats, for a whale watching tour. This is one of the most exciting parts of such cruises.

These cruises do not just provide an onboard sailing experience, but also land tours and on the shore activities. Boating and whitewater rafting, canoeing, and kayaking are some of the most popular activities. Underwater sightseeing in submarines, snorkeling, and scuba adventures form the adventures included in these cruises.

An Alaskan cruise can be very expensive, and hence, people are advised to check very carefully, while deciding on the plans and arrangements.
